Mitchell Dooley joined the City of Lawton in October of 2022 as the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation. Mitchell interned with Campbell County, WY Parks and Recreation as a recreation programmer and graduated with a B.S. in Recreation Management from Brigham Young University- Idaho in 2014. After graduating, he moved to Texas where he served as the Recreation Coordinator for the City of Lake Jackson Parks and Recreation 2015 until moving to Lawton. In Lake Jackson, Mitchell organized and implemented sporting leagues, leisure programs, and special events for participants of all ages. Mitchell recognizes the need for recreation and leisure opportunities to support the health of the community. He is excited to bring some of what he has learned in past positions to Lawton, and looks forward to learning more here.
Mitchell is a member of the National Recreation and Parks Association and holds a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional credential through that organization. He has also been a member of the Texas Recreation and Parks Association, and recently joined the Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society.
Mitchell has been married to Alaina Dooley since 2009 and they have 5 children, a dog, and a leopard gecko. His hobbies include all the things you would expect from a typical recreation guy, including hunting, fishing, cycling, and playing the trumpet. At social gatherings, you’ll likely find him organizing impromptu games and activities for the kids or trading hunting or fishing stories with anybody who’s interested.
