Onreka Johnson

Ward 7 Representative Onreka Johnson took office January 8, 2018; her current term will expire in 2024.

Johnson is the proud mother of Markaila, Tyrek and Malik, and is married to James T. Johnson. She is the founder of Next Step TLP homeless youth program, currently works as a certified behavioral health case manager for Our House Counseling and is involved in various organizations in the community.

Johnson grew up in Hawaii and graduated from Mililani High school, then returned to her birth place of Lawton Fort Sill in 1998.  She is passionate about youth programs and community-oriented endeavors, and has worked to grow local nonprofits and community-based programs by assisting as a consultant, applicant of 501 (c) 3’s, grant writing, program development and volunteer service.

Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Catholic University of America in 1993. Her previous professional experience includes working on Capitol Hill, the University of Oklahoma, Marie Detty Youth, Family Services and Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Oklahoma. She is the organizer of Citizens with Solutions which is held every third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Friendship Life Center, 1408 SW Pennsylvania Avenue. These meetings are open to all Lawtonians who wish to be involved with "identifying and implementing solutions to make positive changes within the community." Her previous local government involvement includes serving on the Lawton Industrial Development Authority. 

Along with adhering to her primary duties as Ward 7 Representative, Johnson also hopes to “bridge the gaps” between citizens and local government during her time in office. She welcomes citizens with her open door policy and her 48-hour policy ensures a call, text or email back to constituents within two days.
