Cynthia Williams Named Deputy Director of Public Works

Lawton City Manager Michael Cleghorn has named Cynthia Williams as Deputy Director of Public Works.

Williams has served the City of Lawton for 18 years. She joined the City of Lawton in 2003 as an Industrial Pretreatment Compliance Officer. In 2005, she served as the Chief Chemist/Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator, and in 2008, accepted the position of Superintendent at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. She served as the city’s Environmental Specialist since 2011 before accepting her position as Public Works Deputy Director.

As Deputy Director of Public Works, Williams will oversee activities of the Solid Waste, Stormwater Management and Drainage Maintenance Divisions.  Previously as the Environmental Specialist, she managed the stormwater program, Community Rating System reporting, All Hazard Mitigation program and landfill permitting.

Williams holds various professional licenses and certificates, including: ODEQ Class A Wastewater Operator Certificate, ODEQ Class A Wastewater Laboratory Certificate, ODEQ Class B Water Operator Certificate, ODEQ Class A Water Laboratory Certificate, EPA Watershed Management Certificate, Certified Floodplain Manager Certificate and 36 various Emergency Management Institute FEMA certificates. Williams also has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Cameron University.

“I am honored to continue my career at the City of Lawton as the Public Works Deputy Director,” she said. “My passion is to protect our environment here in Lawton, and I look forward to continue exercising that passion in this new role.”

Williams will serve as Public Works Deputy Director under Public Works Director Larry Wolcott, who has been with the City of Lawton since 1997.

“Cynthia and I have worked closely together for the past decade,” Wolcott said. “Her degree and career background will serve as the perfect assets for her new role and the divisions she will oversee.”
