Richard Franz | Deputy Director, Emergency Communications

Earlier this month, the City of Lawton's Emergency Communications Department traveled to Nashville, TN for the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Conference.

The conference offered 120 classroom instructions and had over 200 exhibitors relating to emergency communications. APCO is the largest public-safety communications organization in the world with 40,000 members.

City of Lawton supervisors were given the chance to attend classes ranging from leadership within a dispatch center to cybersecurity issues relating to modern technology.

The City’s delegation was led by Jessica Carter, Emergency Communications Director.

"Attending conferences like APCO is crucial to the department staying current with new technologies and advancements in the world of telecommunications," Carter said. "It also highlights the City’s determination to provide its citizens with the best possible public-safety agencies."

The team is back in Lawton and excited to implement what they took away at the conference.
