Lawton Youth Sports Authority finalizes Eastern Sports contract
Published August 11, 2022:
The Lawton Youth Sports Authority (LYSA) has wrapped up negotiations and finalized a contract with Eastern Sports Management (ESM) at Thursday’s meeting.
“This is not just an exciting day for me and the other Trustees of LYSA, but also for all of Lawton-Fort Sill,” said Brian Henry, Chairman of the Lawton Youth Sports Authority. “Quite a bit of hard work, particularly by the Programs Committee, has been accomplished in a short period of time to get us to this point, but we know we are not done yet. While getting the contract approved provides all of us with a sense of relief, we also know that we now have to turn our focus to the transition of the day-to-day management of youth sports to ESM.”
The sports management company has already started working in the City of Lawton by coordinating with the Parks and Recreation Department to ensure a smooth transition for parents, coaches, and athletes.
ESM has also activated their website at playlawton.com. There, you’ll find information on youth and adult sports, divisions, registration and how to become a coach.
Community feedback will be very important as Eastern Sports moves forward with taking over youth sports in the City. They have set up an email for citizens to make suggestions on programs, inquire about employment or provide any other feedback on their website.
This contract is contingent upon City Council approval of a Limited Support Agreement between the City of Lawton and LYSA in the amount of $300,000.
LYSA also approved a $318,500 budget for fiscal year-end 2023. The Limited Support Agreement and budget will be on the August 23rd Council agenda for City Council approval.
