At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Stan Booker recognized the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This observance highlights the valued heritage of these communities and promotes harmony, respect, and diversity in Oklahoma and beyond.
As we study the experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Oklahoma, we gain a deeper understanding of their contributions and struggles. This understanding can serve to further the movement toward a greater level of diversity in our state and promote a culture of respect and inclusion.
By recognizing the community and looking back at the struggles of past generations, we show our respect for the foundation of their dreams and move our focus to achieving. The struggles of past generations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders continue to inspire us today and will inspire future generations of Oklahomans, regardless of race.
The contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have enriched the lives of all Oklahomans. By sharing their heritage and legacies, they have added to the cultural richness of our state and nation. Their significant contributions to the progress of Oklahoma and the United States are worthy of recognition and celebration.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month serves as a reminder of the importance of diversity, inclusion, and respect. It emphasizes the significant contributions made by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the progress of our great state and encourages us to continue to work towards a more diverse and inclusive Oklahoma.
