Starting November 25, 2023, any loads of refuse transported to the landfill that are not adequately secured and covered will be subject to the new additional charges as outlined in the fee schedule. The fees will be $50 for residential vehicles (weighing under 1 ton and not commercially marked) and $200 for commercial vehicles.
In accordance with Ordinance 22-4-1-408 of the City of Lawton, it is mandated that no person shall operate any vehicle carrying refuse garbage on our roadways without ensuring that the load is properly secured and covered. This measure is in place to prevent any potential hazards to fellow road users and to maintain the cleanliness of our community.
Refuse is defined as any waste material that could potentially blow, fall, leak, or escape from the vehicle during transit. This includes items like construction debris, household waste, limbs, furniture, and more.
To ensure compliance, all materials must be covered completely, from front to back and side to side. This applies to all items regardless of the material (including items such as mattresses).
Let's work together to keep Lawton safe, clean, and hazard-free for all residents.
