Whisenhunt receives True North Award

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Director of Public Utilities Rusty Whisenhunt received the True North Award, a testament to his 25+ years of expertise in water systems and 30+ years in engineering and management with the City of Lawton.

Throughout his career, Rusty has held various pivotal roles within the city government, from Construction Inspector to his current position as Director of Public Utilities. He's been instrumental in securing grants for vital infrastructure upgrades and holds Class A certifications, along with a strong affiliation with prestigious engineering organizations.

Rusty has won several awards, including the Golden Manhole Award from the Oklahoma Water Environment Association. He actively pursues grant funding and low-interest loans to assist in making the community safer for the citizens by the replacement of water and wastewater mains within the City of Lawton.

In addition to his professional achievements, Rusty is a devoted pastor, volunteering extensively in his local community.

His outstanding contributions were recently recognized with the 2023 Wastewater Digest Industry Icon Award. Rusty will be featured in the September issue and honored at the Wastewater Federation Conference in Chicago, Illinois, in October.

His legacy is one of excellence and selfless service to Lawton.
