(Lawton, OK) Events honoring the past, present, and future of the City of Lawton and its citizens will be held starting Thursday, August 1 through Saturday, August 10. The City of Lawton, Lawton Rangers, Lawton Rangers Queen Alumni, Pioneer Women’s Club of Lawton and Lawton Heritage Association sponsor these events.

Mayor Stan Booker is pleased to invite the public to Lawton’s Birthday Reception and Ceremony to be held in the Banquet Hall at City Hall (212 SW 9th St.) on Thursday, August 1 at 5:30pm. During the ceremony there will be three important recognitions; the Lawton Award in Excellence recognizing the contributions of Darline Bridges - Hornbeck. The Mayor presents this special award to an individual who exemplifies outstanding excellence in service to the community. The Lawton Rangers and the Pioneer Women’s Club will also be recognized for 81 years of service to our community. 

A new event this year is the 2019 Miss Rodeo Lawton and Junior Miss Rodeo Lawton Pageant. This is an inaugural event for the Lawton Rangers Queen Alumni. The age range for Miss Rodeo Lawton is 16-23 years old and Junior Miss Rodeo Lawton is 8-15 years old. Entries are now open and ongoing, no entry fee! The Miss Rodeo Lawton judging criteria includes personality, appearance, speech presentation, horsemanship, fund raising, knowledge and impromptu questions. The Miss Rodeo Lawton Grand Prizes includes 2-horse trailer, saddle, buckle and $2000 sponsorship towards Miss Rodeo Oklahoma & Entry Fees Paid.  The Junior Miss Rodeo Lawton prizes are saddle, buckle, and Miss Rodeo Oklahoma entry fee. Festivities continue on Saturday, August 3 with the annual Lawton Rangers Breakfast starting at 6:30am in the L.O. Ranch House located at 2004 SE 60th St.  Enjoy an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast Buffet for only $5 per person! All military personnel eat free.

Then at 10am on August 3, the Pioneer Women’s Club of Lawton will host the annual Pioneer Woman’s Memorial at the Ritter-Gray Funeral Chapel located at 632 SW C Avenue to honor the families of the deceased Pioneer Women and the Lawton Rangers.

The birthday festivities continue into Saturday afternoon with free tours of the historic Mattie Beal Home’s 14-room mansion from 12noon – 3pm.  The Mattie Beal Home, located at 1008 SW 5th Street, is owned and maintained by the Lawton Heritage Association and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Mattie Beal was a 22-year old telephone operator in Wichita, Kansas, who decided to register for the land lottery in the Lawton area in 1901.  Mattie Beal’s name was the second one drawn and her life changed. Now “land rich” she received hundreds of marriage proposals but married Lawton businessman, Charles Payne. Together they built a mansion in 1907-1909 that became the social center and architectural highlight of the young city of Lawton. There will be birthday cookies and drinks following the tour. The Lawton Rangers PRCA Rodeo kicks off on Wednesday, August 7 nightly through Saturday, August 10 at the L.O. Ranch Arena located at 2004 SE 60th Street.  The rodeo is one of the top 50 rodeos in the U.S. Over 400 of the most skilled cowboys and cowgirls in the country will compete in tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. Grab your cowboy hat and boots and head out to the Lawton Rangers PRCA Rodeo each night to watch edge-of-your-seat rodeo action, as well as live entertainment.

Ticket information:  Advance tickets are $12.00 (for all nights).  Advanced tickets can be purchased online at www.lawtonrangers.com or from any of the queen contestants. Tickets may also be purchased at EZ Go, Crutcher’s Western Wear, and Atwood’s Ranch & Home.  Advanced tickets at Ft. Sill Adventure Travel are $10 with Military DOD ID.

Wednesday, August 7, an entire carload will gain entry to the rodeo for only $5! Then, Thursday, August 8, be sure to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness! On Friday, August 9, be sure to wear red, white, and blue to show your support for our military! All active duty military in uniform are free. Thursday and Friday nights get your tickets for $15.00 at the gate and Saturday night gate price is $20.00.  Children’s tickets can be purchased at the gate for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Children 6 – 12 years are $7.00 and children 5 years and under are free.

The Rodeo Dance lineup for Friday, August 9, is to be announced and Saturday, August 10, is the Waylon Holly Band. Dance tickets must be purchased at the dance ticket booth. 

 

Lawton Rangers Rodeo Parade! Saturday, August 10, 10am downtown Lawton

The public is invited to join the Lawton Rangers as they bring their Lawton Rangers Rodeo Parade to downtown Lawton. The Parade will start at 10am on Saturday, August 10, the last day of the Lawton Ranger’s rodeo. Line-up will begin at 8am in the northwest corner of Central Mall.

All individuals, businesses, civic groups, school groups, military units, riding clubs, and political candidates are welcome to enter and entries are free, Advance entries are encouraged. Parade activities include contests for best dressed Cowboy, Cowgirl, and Rodeo Clown for kids under six beginning at 9:30am at the reviewing stand in front of City National Bank.

The parade will travel west down C Ave. passed City Hall to 9th Street, then South to D Ave. The parade will turn east on D Avenue, pass the reviewing stand between 5th and 6th Streets, and return to the Mall parking lot.
