The Lawton Fort Sill Open Streets Committee is pleased to announce plans for another family-friendly, health-based initiative in Downtown Lawton this fall, coordinated by the City of Lawton and Fit Kids of Southwest Oklahoma Coalition, in partnership with the Healthy Living Program of Comanche County Memorial Hospital and other community agencies.

The 2021 "Bouncing Back" Open Streets event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 on Southwest C Avenue and in the adjacent parking lot of Central Mall. This longtime community event serves to promote active lifestyles and active transportation, as well as create a rooted sense of community. It will include upward of 50 activity vendors, food trucks, vendors and more. This year, for the first time, a kickball tournament headed by the City of Lawton Parks & Recreation Department will be incorporated and headed by the City of Lawton Parks & Recreation Department. Committee members are also organizing a "Let's Get Moving" Community 5K to coincide with the event. Details on these programs will be announced in the near future.

There are no costs to attend, take part in programming or set up activity vendor booths. Those interested in signing up for an activity vendor booth must do so online by Sept. 18. Full details, rules and a digital sign-up form can be found at https://www.fitkidsofswok.org/sign-up.

"We are incredibly excited to jump back into planning and coordinating a Fall event with our neighbors," said Tiffany Martinez Vrska, City of Lawton community relations director and Open Streets Committee member. "We are definitely bouncing back after a challenging year and very much look forward to bringing new and different programming for the community to enjoy at this Open Streets event."
