City to host Complete Count Committee Kickoff for 2020 Census

NOVEMBER 4, 2018
The City of Lawton, in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau, will host a Complete Count Committee Kickoff on Nov. 8 at Lawton City Hall to foster community participation for the 2020 Census, set to occur March through December 2020.
The U.S. Census proportionally allocates funding for more than 130 federal programs including Medicaid, Housing and CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funding, school lunch programs and highway funding. Information provided through the upcoming 2020 Census will dictate such federal funding allocations for the City of Lawton for the next 10 years; participation from citizens is imperative for the sustainability of critical programs within the community.
“The City of Lawton recognizes the importance of reaching out to leaders across the community to encourage constituents to provide accurate and complete information to the U.S. Census Bureau,” said Lawton Mayor Fred Fitch during a proclamation of acknowledgement at the Oct. 23 City Council meeting. “The allocated funding received through Census data collection is essential to the citizens of the City of Lawton, and for the continued growth and development of our community.”
In accordance with Census guidelines, City officials have concentrated efforts in contacting community leadership from various sectors of the city to participate in the kickoff. All citizens are encouraged to complete Census survey upon distribution.
