City of Lawton collaborates in "AIM for Lawton" initiative
The City of Lawton is proud to take part in the "AIM for Lawton" (Apprenticeship, Internship, Mentorship) partnership program alongside Lawton Public Schools, Cameron University and Great Plains Technology Center next week, which will serve to offer educational and practical training to high school sophomores.
Personnel from Public Works and Lawton Fire have volunteered to be student mentors of the program and additional staff members will join youth on Feb. 13 in a "round robin" session to offer additional insight on careers at the City of Lawton. Collectively, six departments are participating in the initiative.
"Helping to develop the future leaders and future workforce of our community is something we are all very passionate about," said Tiffany Martinez Vrska, City of Lawton Community Relations Director and AIM Committee member. "We have the opportunity to work together to educate students on all of the careers, resources and opportunities available to them right here in Lawton Fort Sill. This is the start of something great."
Planning and coordination for this program began several months ago. Additional contributors to the initiative include Fort Sill, the Hilton Garden Inn, Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, Museum of the Great Plains, Soldier Express and Sodexo.
