The City of Lawton has launched a new texting service, called TextMyGov to help Lawtonians quickly receive information using text messaging.

The service allows citizens to find information and report issues on the go through the City’s text messaging number, (580) 360-6581. This number uses smart texting technology to provide immediate assistance and relay information back about the service, department or event residents would like to know more about.

For example, if a resident texted in the word EVENTS to the City’s text messaging number(580)-360-6581, it would return a link to the calendar. Texting in the word PUBLIC WORKS returns information about Landfill, Streets and Traffic, Drainage Maintenance, Stormwater Management, Electronic Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, Public Works Admin and a link to the Public Works department to learn more.

Anyone can get started by texting "Hi" to (580) 360-6581. We recommend residents save this number to their phone contacts so they can text in anytime they wish. As we receive input from Lawtonians, we'll be working to make adjustments that will help the system answer questions more efficiently.

In addition to the City’s smart texting phone number, the service provides an alternative method for residents to stay connected through text messaging and receive important news and updates sent directly to their phone using Text Alerts.

The City has various text notification lists that residents opt in to receive specific updates on City Council, Alerts, and Traffic Advisories. Residents can sign up for those now using the guide below:

For City-wide Alerts, text LAWTON to 91896

For City Council Alerts, text LAWTONCOUNCIL to 91896

For City News Alerts, text LAWTONNEWS to 91896

For City Traffic Alerts, text LAWTONTRAFFIC to 91896

Residents are welcome to opt out of the messaging system by texting STOP at any time to stop receiving messages.
