Early voting underway for special election

UPDATE: Early voting is underway for the special election for Lawton City Council Wards 3, 4, and 5.

PREVIOUS ARTICLE: Voters wishing to cast their ballot in the special electionfor Lawton City Council Wards 3, 4 and 5 must be registered to vote by Friday, July 29.

Election Day is August 23, 2022. If necessary, a runoff will be held on November 8, 2022.

Running for Ward 3’s council seat is incumbent Linda Chapman and Cartessa Ecko Smith.

George Gill, Barbara Curry and Eric Sharum are running for Ward 4, as councilman Jay Burk has termed out.

Councilman Alan Hampton of Ward 5 has refiled for his seat and is running unopposed.

Early voting is scheduled to take place on August 18th and 19th from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and August 20th from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Comanche County Election Board (315 SW 5th St.).

Any registered voter can request an absentee ballot at elections.ok.gov, but has to do so by August 8. If it is a standard application, voters have until the close of business by August 22 to return it in person to the Comanche County Election Board.
