FEMA approves updated City Hazard Mitigation Plan
22 September 2019
The City of Lawton is pleased to announce the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved the Lawton Hazard Mitigation Plan, allowing the City to retain eligibility for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program for the next five years. Lawton may now begin the process of seeking eligibility and approval for mitigation project action items by submitting a Notice of Intent through Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) grants.
“This plan identifies hazard risks and vulnerable areas along with strategies to reduce the loss of life and property from these hazards,” said Cynthia Williams, City of Lawton Environmental Specialist and submission coordinator. “There are 46 action items listed, to include: flood prone properties, upgraded storm siren systems, low water crossing replacement and design flood control projects.”
