The Oklahoma City Zoo and the Metropolitan Library System are rolling out a new, statewide literacy program called “Read for Adventure” and the Lawton Public Library is participating.

The program aims to promote literacy within families, increase their contact with the outdoors and provide an outlet for invaluable, nature-inspired discoveries. Educating Oklahomans about wildlife and wild places has always been central to the OKC Zoo’s mission and through this partnership, we care inspiring children to read about wildlife and connect with those same animals and plants here at the Zoo.

“Read for Adventure” runs May 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019. The program is free to participate and open to any Oklahoman with a valid library card. Each time a family checks out the book “Our Day at the Zoo”, they will receive a ticket voucher to the OKC Zoo for up to four guests while supplies last.

“Read for Adventure is a rewarding event that we’re excited to share with our patrons and hope that it inspires children to read about wildlife and provide them an opportunity to physically and visually connect same animals and plants at the Zoo,” said Lawton Public Library Youth Services Librarian Tanya Organ.

Go wild this summer with the “Read for Adventure” event and experience your own day at the Zoo! To learn more about this event, please contact Lawton Public Library Youth Services Librarian Tanya Organ, at 580-581-3450 option 5, or by email at @email
