GROWN UPS ONLY Easter Egg Hunt!

More than 9,000 eggs will be hidden in the fields of the Louise D. McMahon Park on the afternoon of April 20 when the City of Lawton hosts the First – and one of Oklahoma’s largest – “Grown Ups Only” Easter Egg Hunt in Lawton.

“I had heard of these events in different cities and it looked so exciting,” said Parks & Recreation Coordinator Michell Rosario. “I thought it’d be a great idea to bring that to our city for our residents and neighbors to enjoy.”

Individuals must be 21 to attend the free event, which will consist of three Easter egg hunts, musical entertainment, vendors, food and prizes. All the fun begins at 3 p.m. and coordinators say the celebration will take place rain or shine.

“We have many Easter egg hunts for children in our community,” Rosario said. “This is something new and fun for the adults. They can get out and enjoy the fresh spring air, meet more of the community and just have a great time.”

While outdoor City events are often hosted at Elmer Thomas Park in Downtown Lawton, Rosario said this event will allow staff and volunteers to showcase another local gem. Louise D. McMahon Park, located at Southwest 38th Street and Lee Boulevard, is complete with multiple softball fields, outdoor art and landscaping, and a skate park.

Easter egg baskets will be given out to the first 100 participants at no charge.

Those wishing to volunteer or participate in the event may register in-person at the Owens Multipurpose Recreation Center, 1405 SW 11th, during traditional business hours or online at, through April 18. Participants and volunteers must be 21 years or older.

Interested vendors may submit applications through April 17. There is no charge to become a vendor for this event but proper licensing, if applicable, must be obtained from the City of Lawton License & Permits Division. Sponsors are also sought for this event and interested parties may contact Rosario at 580.581.3483 for more information. Attending vendors or sponsors must be 21 years or older.
