Independence Day 2019 - City of Lawton
LAWTON – As Independence Day approaches, the City of Lawton would like to kindly remind citizens that fireworks discharge is prohibited in Lawton city limits and on all Lawton properties, to include Lake Lawtonka and Lake Ellsworth, in accordance with Lawton City Code Chapter 11: Fire Prevention.
This excludes professional fireworks displays that have been approved to take place by the City of Lawton such as that occurring at the Lawton Fort Sill Freedom Festival on June 29 at Elmer Thomas Park in downtown Lawton. This event is free and all are welcome to attend.
City of Lawton offices will be closed to observe Independence Day on Thursday, July 4. This closure includes the Lawton Public Library and the Lawton Landfill. Please be aware that trash pickup will not occur on this day. It will resume on the next regularly scheduled pickup day.
Emergency services, such as that provided by police and fire, will remain available to citizens as always. Regular business hours and operations for all City of Lawton facilities will resume Friday, July 5.
The Lakes Division Office will be closed July 4, but select Lakes Division employees will be on-site at both local lakes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 4 to collect holiday usage fees: $5 per carload for day-use areas and $8 per tent in primitive areas. Citizens are also reminded that no glass containers are permitted at the lakes. Read about rules, regulations and general safety tips at lawtonok.gov.
The City of Lawton wishes you a wonderful and safe Independence Day. Thank you for your cooperation.
