LAWTON –As Independence Day approaches, the City of Lawton would like to kindly remind citizens that fireworks discharge is prohibited in Lawton city limits and on all Lawton properties, to include Lake Lawtonka and Lake Ellsworth, in accordance with Lawton City Code Chapter 11: Fire Prevention. This excludes any professional fireworks displays that have been approved to take place by the City of Lawton.

If citizens are discharging fireworks outside of City limits with permission, they are advised to abide by safety tips that can be found at lawtonok.gov/sites/default/files/publications/2020-06/FireworksSafetyTips.pdf

 

FREEDOM FESTIVAL

Citizens are invited to Elmer Thomas Park on the evening of June 26, 2021, to enjoy one of the largest fireworks displays in the state of Oklahoma at the Lawton Fort Sill Freedom Festival. CITY CLOSURES

In accordance with Lawton City Code, Section 17-1-6-162, City of Lawton sites and offices will close to observe the fixed holiday of Independence Day on Monday, July 5, 2021. Please note that trash collection for applicable locations will still occur on this day and emergency services, such as that provided by Police and Fire departments, will be available as always. The Lawton Landfill will also be open; the Lawton Public Library will be closed.

Regular business hours and operations for all City of Lawton sites/offices will resume Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

 

LAKES INFORMATION

Citizens are reminded that no glass containers are permitted at the lakes. The Day-Use Are of Lake Lawtonka will be closed by sundown. Please drive with caution and watch for pedestrians as heavy crowds are expected at Lakes during and around Independence Day.

 

AQUATICS INFORMATION

Aquatics facilities of the City of Lawton are open regular hours on Saturday, July 3, 2021. They will be closed both July 4 and July 5, 2021.  All facilities are scheduled to open on July 6, 2021. View regular hours and locations at lawtonok.gov/services/wading-pool-and-spray-park-rental
