The City of Lawton's AmeriCorps Senior Program hosted a donation drive for blankets and stuffed animals to give to the Lawton Fire Department and Lawton Police Department for local families displaced or impacted by home fires or domestic violence. The donations go to children they come across while on duty.
The volunteers gathered at the Public Safety Center to turn over the items from their September 11th Service Act Donation Drive.
AmeriCorps Seniors is a nationwide program that pairs thousands of Americans aged 55 and over with organizations in their communities. If you are eligible to get involved, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Administrator Jessica Musselman recommends it.
“AmeriCorps seniors is awesome because anything that you have skill in, a hobby, or interest, we can find you a place that is looking for volunteers,” Musselman said. These volunteers are excited to get involved with the community and make a difference.
