Lawton Fort Sill Open Streets
In 2018 the Fit Kids Coalition of Southwest Oklahoma, with the support of the City of Lawton, will host its fourth year of biannual Open Streets events. This year’s Fall event is scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd. As always, the events will be held on C Avenue, in downtown Lawton. We would LOVE for you to join the fun!
Open Streets is an event concept that turns a city street into a public park with free activities for the whole family to have fun and get moving. The focus of the event is to:
Create a sense of community
Promote active lifestyles
Promote active transportation
Provide information regarding available community services
Aid in efforts to revitalization the downtown area
The 2017 Open Streets events drew more than 4,000 attendees to each event and had participation from 70 vendors/activity sponsors. Here are some responses from the 2017 attendee surveys:
90% said it was very important for Lawton Fort Sill to provide these types of events
95% learned new ways to be more active and healthy
98% plan to attend the next event
75% planned to visit a restaurant or retail establishment while in the downtown area
Vendor/activity sponsor space for this event costs nothing, but monetary sponsorships are essential to allow the Lawton Fort Sill Open Streets event to continue. Such donations go toward funding art supplies, advertising signs, decorations, miscellaneous items such as printing and ice, and even port-a-johns and hand washing stations. Sponsorships begin at only $100!
