LFD participates in 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

The Lawton Fire Department participated in the statewide 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 15 in Oklahoma City to honor and pay tribute to firefighters who died saving lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Fifteen firefighters climbed 110 flights, with each carrying an ID badge representing one of the 343 fallen NYFD firefighters. Upon completion, badges were placed on a memorial board and a bell was rung.

"This was a very humbling experience that we all felt honored to be able to participate in," said LFD Firefighter Kory Tate. "It was a great way for brothers from all over Oklahoma to bond together while honoring those who lost their lives that day. We were keeping our promise to never forget."

Approximately 3,000 people perished in the 9/11 attacks, and more than 6,000 were injured. Tate said all of those representing the LFD felt extremely privileged to be part of the event and commemorate the fallen.
