During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Stan Booker and representatives from the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women recognized Kat Funaki as Citizen of the Month for May 2023.
Funaki founded the non-profit organization Events by Our Team (EBOT) in 2019. She wanted to raise awareness and provide funding to organizations in the Lawton-Fort Sill area. EBOT helps other non-profit organizations with hosting family friendly events for our community.
EBOT is an invaluable umbrella organization, aiding programs that greatly benefit our area such as the “Stop and Shop Local” event which creates a centralized location for vendors to gain visibility while selling their product and the “Rising Entrepreneur” project that provides an opportunity for citizens aged 17 and under to develop leadership skills.
Funaki’s dedication has enabled EBOT to extend support during times of crisis and need. EBOT has support programs such as “It Takes a Village” which provided food and clothing for children and their families during the pandemic, “Okie Neighbors” which helped coordinate relief efforts for Oklahoma during natural disasters by ensuring the safety of our citizens, and the “Feed the Kids” program that offers meals for children at feeding centers during a time of need.
EBOT’s aid and promotion of all these programs showcases their contributions and selfless commitment to the progress of our community and to the residents of Lawton-Fort Sill.
Thank you, Kat Funaki, for your leadership, selfless efforts, and dedication to our community!
