Mayor Issues 'Lime Out Lawton' Proclamation

Lawton Mayor Stan Booker issued a proclamation for "Lime Out Lawton" at the November 16 regular Lawton City Council meeting. The proclamation proclaims that the third week in November to be recognized as "Lime Out Lawton," which is in conjunction with recognizing November as National Homeless Youth Awareness Month.

'Lime Out Lawton' Proclamation

Whereas, responding to the increasing number of homeless children and youth in the Lawton Fort Sill Community, The Next Step TLP, Inc. was founded by Onreka Givens Johnson in 2008 to help meet the need of housing, supportive services, and street out reach for the underserved population of homeless youth from 17 to 21; and

Whereas, the purpose of this proclamation is to bring awareness to the increasing number among this population who are finding themselves in a state of homelessness in the Lawton Fort Sill Community and to acknowledge the need for additional safe and stable supportive housing; and

Whereas, the Homeless Liaison for Lawton Public Schools identified 747 as of November 1, 2021, currently identified as experiencing homelessness, and

Whereas, as a city, we should do everything we can to help bring awareness to this challenge in our community and encourage citizens to show support in any way they can; and

Whereas, as a city, we acknowledge and recognize November as National Homeless Youth Awareness Month and encourage citizens to show support to our homeless youth in our city by wearing lime green ribbons in support of Homeless Youth in the City of Lawton and encourage citizens to help spread awareness of the state of homelessness and the need to assist the children and youth in our community.

Now, therefore, I, Stan Booker, Mayor, City of Lawton, do hereby proclaim that the third week of November be recognized as "Lime Out Lawton."
