Voters Approve CIP 2020, PROPEL

PROP

11 February 2020

The 2020 Capital Improvement Plan – “PROPEL” – has been approved by City voters, providing a pathway for elected officials and City leadership to make much needed upgrades and enhancements across the community.

Categories of improvement, as part of the program, include: parks and beautification, youth development, roads/sidewalks, site renovation, arts & humanities, water/sewer infrastructure, technology, industrial development and public transportation.

“Lawton is a community worth investing in, as demonstrated by voters today at the polls,” said City Manager Michael Cleghorn. “Our administration is pleased to move forward with the many plans and projects outlined in the 2020 CIP. Staff will work alongside the people we serve for the utmost community involvement and outreach throughout the initiatives of this program, and at the direction of Lawton City Council.”

City Management and elected officials took part in more than 50 interactive community meetings and public forums from November 2019 through Feb. 10, in an effort to educate citizens on the proposition.

“It is an exciting time to be in Lawton Fort Sill,” said Mayor Stan Booker. “We now have plans in place to grow and improve the quality of life for our citizens and ‘PROPEL’ Lawton into the future!”

Updates and project plans will be posted to lawtonok.gov as they are determined.
